What to see
The cultural and touristic offer of Fraga is wide, heterogeneous and varied. The main places of interest are: The Palace of Montcada, the Church of San Pedro and the narrow streets of the Old Fraga, perfect to take a nice walk and to enjoy its beautiful landscape.
At the reception of our Hotel, we will provide you with information about other, further away touristic places, such as the Mining Museum of Mequinenza, the secrets of Lleida and other alternatives.
Additionally, from the Hotel Casanova, we suggest you the following routes:
Bajo Cinca and Monegros
Explore Mequinenza, the Black Serreta the historic Fraga, Mirasolt, Sigena, Sariñena, Monsoon, San Román de Castro, La Puebla de Castro, Torreciudad, and San Caprasio Alcubiere.
DAY 1: POINT OF ORIGIN – FRAGA (HUESCA)
Departure from the city at the appointed time and departure to Fraga (Huesca), dinner and overnight at Hotel Casanova.
DAY 2: FRAGA – MEQUINENZA – SERRETA NEGRA FRAGA
Breakfast and departure to Mequinenza, where we will see a panoramic view of the marsh and its surroundings. Visit the castle with the same name. Also visit the oil mill. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon we will continue to reach the Serreta Negra this interesting natural area is accessed by the N-II towards Zaragoza, in point of sales of the King. It houses a wealth of flora and fauna of the region. Also found the remains of an ancient village called Cardiel. Back to Fraga, dinner and overnight at Hotel Casanova.
DAY 3: FRAGA – CASCO HISTÓRICO
Breakfast and departure on a trip to the historical center of the city of Fraga. It starts at the top of the city, on the esplanade of the castle or church of San Miguel. The tour continues downhill to Hort del Hospital, where the Palace of Montcada (Library) and folkloric museum, within walking distance is the church of San Pedro, which stands the tower of three bodies (Romanesque-Gothic-Mudejar). The route continues along winding narrow streets of the Mozarabic period coming down from Casa Marcial to Rio Cinca. Lunch at the hotel Casanova Fraga. Free afternoon, dinner and overnight at Hotel Casanova.
DAY 4: FRAGA – MIRASOLT – SIGENA SARIÑENA FRAGA
Breakfast and departure Mirasolt, where we see some Ibero-Roman remains, continue until you reach Sigena where we see a Cistercian monastery S: XII. Lunch at a local restaurant. Afternoon: arrival to Sariñena, whose county is located in the north of the Ebro, between the rivers Gallego and Cinca. It has in its term deposits of ancient cultures, Bronze and Iron ages, such as a bombing range, the shrine of Santiago, Mataliebres. It is also interesting the lake of Sariñena, former wetland of endorheic origine. After the visit, return to Fraga; dinner and overnight at Hotel Casanova.
DAY 5: FRAGA – MONZÓN – FRAGA
Breakfast and departure for Monzon; visit to the village which shows two configurations: the old, narrow streets, forming beautiful places, and the new and modern layout. The Monzon Castle is located on a small hill, where there’s a view over the whole urban landscape. In the Muslim period it was a fortress. Lunch at the restaurant Pisces, in Monzon. Afternoon: visit the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria de Romeral (XII c.). The town was the seat of the Parliament of the Crown of Aragon and birthplace of lawyer Joaquín Costa. After the visit, return to Fraga. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Casanova.
DAY 6: FRAGA – SAN RAMÓN DE CASTRO – LA PUEBLA DE CASTRO – TORRECIUDAD – FRAGA
Breakfast and departure to San Román de Castro, located on a hill at 760 m. altitude, with the Romanesque hermitage of San Román and exceptional views to the central Pyrenees. We will continue to Puebla de Castro, to visit the Gothic altarpiece (XV c.) which is kept inside. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon we will continue to Torreciudad, temple opened for worship in 1975; at the altar of the alabaster temple there’s a Romanesque statue of Our Lady of Torreciudad-XI c. We will enjoy the wonderful scenic location, where one breathes an absolute peace. Back to Fraga, dinner and overnight at Hotel Casanova.
DAY 7: FRAGA – ALCUBIERE – SAN CAPRASIO – FRAGA
Breakfast and departure to Alcubiere, where there is a part of the “desert of Monegros”. This area has a typical Aleppo pine forest formation or ALIPO, where a large colony of birds live. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will drive to San Caprasio in the mountains of Lanaja, located in one of the most sheltered and shadiest areas, with a landscape full of unique flora and fauna. After the visit, return to Fraga; dinner and overnight at Hotel Casanova.
DAY 8: FRAGA – POINT OF ORIGIN
Breakfast and departure to your point of origin.
